Ransomware!

Gasps!

Be careful out there.

It's much easier to just demand cash directly from infected users -- a crime that's the Internet's equivalent of kidnapping.
"Give me all your money or your computer gets it-" is the basic proposition.

Chaos poem

Dearest creature in creation
Studying English pronunciation,

I will teach you in my verse

Sounds like corpse, corps, horse and worse.

I will keep you, Susy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy;
Tear in eye, your dress you'll tear;

Queer, fair seer, hear my prayer.

iPad

I thought it was Photoshopped. It certainly looked like it to me. Bummer. I didn't jump up and down for it. I wasn't as excited when iPhone came out. I was just... blur.

Here are ten things missing from the iPad by Wired.

Many people will bemoan the lack of support for Adobe’s interactive software, Flash. It wasn’t mentioned, but eagle-eyed viewers would have seen the missing plugin icon on the New York Times site during yesterday’s demo, and given that Apple clearly hates Flash as both a non-open web “standard” and as a buggy, CPU-hungry piece of code, it’s unlikely it will ever be added, unless Apple decides it wants to cut the battery life down to two hours.
 Damn right!

Cyber extortion

Avatar

I knew what Avatar (in the game world) means...but I forgot until I watched the movie.

My rating: 4.8/5
The 0.2 was the creepy inter-species relationship...it would have been a bigger number if I hadn't thought that there are other alien movies out there with these relationships, right?

Anyway, it was worth the buzz!

Facebook + Twitter: Top weird stories of 2009

Swine flu, or H1N1, presented another challenge -- and rich source of weird stories. In Egypt, thousands of pigs were slaughtered even though the United Nations said the mass cull was a "real mistake" because the strain was not found in pigs.
